What forensic opportunities are you missing?

Fingerprints, DNA, footwear impressions, CCTV and the thousands of other forensic opportunities to find answers. Surely you wouldn't leave this evidence behind would you? During a forensic vehicle investigation, why would you leave the same forensic opportunities behind?

But what opportunites might you be missing during your forensic vehicle investigation?

There are three main opportunities, which ours and other forensic vehicle examiners can recover for you.

Freeze frame data - What is freeze frame data? When a vehicle develops a fault, the vehicle can record what it was doing at the time the fault occurred. The information is primarily used by mechanics, but can be useful during a forensic vehicle investigation and a forensic vehicle examiner can determine the best way to recover it.

Event data recorder (EDR) - What is an EDR? Modern vehicles (probably more than you would think) have an event data recorder, where in the event of a crash (or sometimes a near miss), the EDR records information about what the vehicle was doing at the time of the crash and a few seconds beforehand. It can also tell you who was in the vehicle, whether their seatbelts were being worn and so much more.

How long does EDR data last on a car? Where a cars airbags deploy, the information is generally stored permanently. During a near-miss, it is a little less defined.

The only way to truly know whether an EDR can assist your forensic vehicle investigation, is to contact us today and let our forensic vehicle examiner assess your case. We can ascertain whether there is likely to be any EDR data recorded on the vehicle and the best way to recover it.

Other module data - Most modern vehicles have a bank of computers on-board, controlling everything from the engine to the lights and everything else in between. These are often referred to a electronic control modules. Control modules record various information sources. Imagine being able to recover that information during your forenisc vehicle examination? Our forensic vehicle examiner is just a phone call away and we can start the ball rolling to recover that information.

Do you want to strengthen your forensic vehicle investigation? Contact Driven Forensics today and our forensic vehicle examiner will be able to help you identify what information may be available and the best way to recover it.
