Electric Cars: But Are They Safe?

It is going to be a week of interesting programmes, not least because Channel 5 are airing their programme “ Electric Cars: But Are They Safe? ”.

Why is this interesting? I hope that this will be a balanced argument on the pro’s and con’s of electric vehicles when it comes to how safe they are.

In 2023, I was fortunate enough to complete my level 4 IMI award in the diagnosis, testing and repair of electric/hybrid vehicles and components, and part of that course was removing various electrical components from vehicles, testing them and refitting them.

That course opened my eyes up to the dangers electric vehicles present, but also some of the methods manufacturers are using to minimise the risks electric vehicles present.

But on the flip side, I have also been fortunate enough to own petrol/diesel cars and later on had both a Volkswagen ID4 and Hyundai Tucson (hybrid) as a company car, so I can see the differences between the platforms.

What do you think? Are electric vehicles safe? Would you trust them?
