Imaging (downloading) crash data

How is EDR data downloaded (imaged)?

Event data recorders (EDR) can be downloaded using:

  • Bosch CDR (collision data retrieval tool)
  • CrashScan

Whilst the term 'download' is used, it is more accurate to say the EDR data is imaged. In the event of a crash (or sometimes a near miss), data is recorded by the EDR. The EDR tools (Bosch CDR / CrashScan) simply take a photograph of that image, so to all intents purposes, they are not downloading the data, they are simply capturing an image.
