Interpretation

Driven Forensics specialise in the recovery of vehicle borne data, including EDR or crash data, freeze frame data and module data.

Most of these data sets are easily accessible by people with the correct tools, which begs the question, when the systems are easy to access and they provide you with data from vehicle sensors, why do you need to hire someone like Driven Forensics?

And the title of this post is the answer, interpretation.

Just like optical illusions, vehicle based data tells you what the vehicle experienced, which may not necessarily be what actually happened.

Vehicles, unlike humans, are not programmed to deceive, so generally speaking the data they present as crash data, is a genuine account of what they experienced, but there are occasions where the data is incorrect and not representative of what the vehicle was actually doing.

Some examples include bags being placed on seats tricking the car into believing the seat was occupied and a rapid acceleration whilst the vehicle is upside down are just two instances of many, where if the data is incorrectly misinterpreted and applied in the wrong context, it can have devastating affects to any insurance or legal investigations.

Driven Forensics have been in the field of vehicle systems forensics, EDR / crash data recovery and vehicle inspections since 2017. If you would like context to your data, contact us today.
